So, I"m finally giving up. I"m posting on LJ asking for help. I'm just going to try as many communities as I can, and hope at least someone will see it and help.

Ok, I found your plea via another community.

I'm trying to think of things - you said you were a grad student, right? I am assuming you have health insurance, via your school. Call the health services office there, and see what they can help you get set up, if anything.

http://www.ppmns.org/site/pp.asp?c=gwKTJaN0JyF&b=306485 Contact your closest planned parenthood, as well, and see what you can work out with them, vis-a-vis getting an appointment and payment plans.

Yes- i don't know if there is a Planned Parenthood in your area, but the abortion was actually almost completely covered by my health insurance- i was in grad school as well. i think it ended up being $86.
Also, Planned Parenthood did not send me an actual bill until 3-4 months afterward, so it allowed me to save up for a while. i know that they'll take small payments, too, as long as you keep paying them.

Best of luck to you. i know it's not easy but hopefully you can find a way so that it's less money and less stressful.

will they take credit cards? not that i particularly like credit cards but i believe some clinic take them. at least you could make payments that way.

a friend of mine use to work at a clinic and they cost $450 (at least a year before she changed jobs). she said larger cities are usually cheaper. i'm really sorry that it's so much more where you are...it's ridiculous to me. but, ask them if they have a sliding scale fee depending on income.

also, since it sounds like your in the midwest (the lake superior interest), does queen anns lace. it's a flower that grows wild all over the midwest. i'm sure the net tells of ways to prepare it, but most places don't sell it. (if you do look to buy it, and people are hesitant, it's also good for getting rid of fleas on pets when used as a shampoo). i've seen it all over growing up and didn't realize what it was. it's supposedly is one of the most effective herbs in causing an abortion.

how close to the canadian border do you live? abortions are women's rights here and free too can, citizens. if travellers insurance ended up being cheaper, do you think it would cover the procedure?
best wishes.
