Hi, I thought I would introduce myself. I am a senior (two months to go till B.A.) at a tiny college in mid-New York State. I became highly interested in ethnomusicology after taking a world music class my sophmore year. Thank you all so much for your useful responses. My school is so small that I never meet anyone else who is into ethno, everyone always looks at me like I am nuts. Thanks for all of the great school suggestions. I knew about the SEM site, but I wondered what schools people might actually suggest. I will keep all of your great advice in mind. ladyofannwn I go to Wells College in Aurora, which is about a half and hour from Ithaca.

I strongly encourage you to watch the BBC's dvd release of Ravi Shankar titled "Between Two Worlds". It should provide a rich context for anything related to your topic, and includes at least one chapter focused entirely on the 1960's pop-rock scene and how classical Hindustani music acted and reacted with it. It also touches on jazz and beat literature with speakers such as Ginsberg. Overall I think it would serve a great foundation.
