can someone get fired for talking to their boss about their pay rate and the fact that they get paid less than someone who has been there for a year when they have been there for almost 5 years ( Read more... )

It is illegal to know how much other people get paid at your place of employment. you should have approached it like: "i think i deserve a raise" not "everyone else got one why dont i?"

but i dont think they can fire you on those grounds.

I didnt say it like that though...the way i put it is..i have been here 4 and a half years and i get paid the same amount as someone who has been here for a year...that is unfair...thats how i put it. I wasnt asking for a raise because i already knew i couldnt get one until september. I fully believe that i deserved one...but i still knew that i couldnt get one...i was then considered as being insubordinate...It was just a very unfair situation :(

You shouldn't have been fired for inquiring about how much you get paid. It's not like you demanded anything or threatened to leave if you didn't get your way. That was just ridiculous of her.

Keep us up to date on what's going on with the labor board and stuff.
