It's really amazing to me just how much I do not fit in here.  I've been called 'New Yorker' by at least three complete strangers (including one actual New Yorker), and the more I look around, the more I see just how much I have never been at home in this bizarre little burg.  Everyone walks so slowly, drives so slowly, is way, WAY too nice;

Aye. I definitely notice that people here prefer cringing ingratiation to courtesy and respect. And, by the by, it's not just the speed, the whole sidewalk etiquette of Yuppieland is discombobulated, with moving roadblocks of Sober-And-Bewildered-By-It college students and Holier-Than-Thou-Because-I've-Got-A-Baby mothers.

But I just can't leave the avocados.
