Lorelai still couldn’t believe she was gone. Her little Rory, all grown up and out in the big bad world on her own. Lorelai knew she had to let her go, but it didn’t mean it couldn’t hurt when she did. Watching her get on that bus to go away for however long and probably never return to Stars Hollow to live, Lorelai kept her emotions in check until ( Read more... )

Rory was on her way to meet Jason, that same smile on her lips that had been there since she met him. She couldn't help herself. He made her happy. She had never been able to get enough of him since their first conversation, then had come the first kiss. She'd been doomed from the start, but she didn't care.

The only thing that really tarnished it was the fact she couldn't share any of it with her Mom. She was so used to being able to call Lorelai, or see her, that Rory was lost without that connection to her mother. To her best friend.

She pulled up short just as she was about to bump into someone, and it took Rory a couple of moments to realise the woman in the Cookie Monster pyjamas was all too familiar. "Mom?!"

"Rory!" Lorelai shrieked, nearly stumbling in the sand from the shock. "What are you doing here?! I just put you on a bus! Go! Go get back on it or Obama will have your butt! You won't get another chance like this. I know it's scary, and it's daunting, and all those other verbs that mothers are supposed to know in situations like this, but it'll be okay."

She was about to give her daughter a little shove in the right direction, but she paused, stilling. "What did you do to your hair? Got a little timewarp going there, kid?"

Rory gaped at her Mom, her mouth well and truly hanging open. "What--huh?" Rory continued to stare, trying to work out who Obama was, and why he'd have her butt. Maybe her Mom had been watching too many late night movies, and worried a boogie man was going to get her.

Rory frowned as her hand went to her hair, and she parted a little. "What's wrong with my hair?"

Lorelai tilted her head just a little. "Well, it's a little 2004. How did you cut your hair in the bus anyway, which gets me back to the point, why aren't you on that bus?!" She tucked her hand into Rory's elbow, planning on leading her... into the water? No, that wouldn't work. "I think I'm tripping. Those brownies must've been hash cookies."
