It is absolutely okay to register with more than one temp agency. I recommended Stivers on the plaza. They have the UMKC temp account, as well as a few other large accounts.

Flashback: Summer, 1986. Due to head off for my first year as an undergrad in two months. Needed cash, so then-girlfriend half-jokingly suggested I apply to McDonald's. So I did - seriously.

I was turned down. Reason (as explained to me on the 'phone that night by pimply deputy branch manager): "I'm afraid you're over-qualified." (I had four A' levels.)

*Rolls eyes.*

Advice: Fuck 'em. You worked hard for your qualifications - don't play the Devaluation game, and be proud of what you've achieved. If your numerous bits of paper are truly what's preventing you getting a specific job, then the employer is the one with a problem, not you.

Historical postscript, re: Summer, '86: I ended up flogging a short story, and lived in a caravan in Allhallows, Kent with my then-girlfriend for two months. Ah, youth...
