9/11 thoughts

It's been awhile since I posted to Livejournal. Or really made any online writing more than the length of a twitter update. However, I'm struck on the Ten Year anniversary of 9/11 to write something, albeit I'm posting this after midnight so it's a tad late.

The reason I thought about posting this, is that in the past few months it occured to me that a teen ages 13-15 might not remember much if anything about the 9/11 attacks...and that stunned me. A day after Osama Bin Laden was killed, I spoke with a 13 year old girl and was shocked to learn she had no idea who Osama bin Laden was. She'd heard of the attacks, but seemed to only vagualy know who had perpretrated them. Not typical, but it's a reminder to me that, yes, we DO need to remember and tell the strories of what happened that day.

I know several people still have various feelings and opinions about the day. I have my own...strong ones. But I hope we can agree that the spirit of resolve in the face of challenge and danger, is a picture of the best of us and what makes this country strong. Does that include anger at those who did this? Yes. I still feel angry that they did this. I still feel angry at the blame america group, the 'truthers' and the apathetic too.

I'm not defined by what happened on 9/11. But I won't forget. And I will continue to keep the story in my heart.
