Lucked Out

I'm not really in the habit of writing long sports entries here, so bear with me.
So the Colts finished last, and will be in position, if they wish, to draft Andrew Luck, who in many ways mirrors Peyton Manning when he came out, right down to arguably being cheated out of a Heisman by a flavor of the month player. The assumption is, even if Manning is healthy to come back, you can't keep both players and he may be traded to another team.

Draft Luck if you wish, but it would honestly be very sad for me to see Peyton in another uniform to finish his career. A few, not all, of the fans eagerness to embrace the idea of disposing Manning makes me a little depressed. Can you imagine Broncos fans being excited to see Elway pushed out? Bulls fans excited to see Jordan replaced? Yes yes, Joe Montana played for the Chiefs, point stands. The way some here have been so eager to shove the greatest sports figure ever to play for Indianapolis, or for any Indiana team, out the door makes me sick. Yes, Manning is bigger than Reggie Miller or Steve Alford. The only real people you could compare him too are people (Like Larry Bird) who didn't play in Indiana, Coaches (like Bobby Knight) or maybe some racing figures, and even then I'm not so sure. I'm not at all in the practice of gushing over sports figures in worship, but I've always had the feeling that many Colts fans just don't fully appreciate Manning, maybe because they didn't follow the team much before he came or because football is always 2nd to basketball, but if there's one thing that I do like about possibly getting Andrew Luck, it's not having to endure years of QB debates between Jeff George and Jack Trudeau.

Whew, had to get that off my chest. If they pick Luck, I hope he does well, and I'll be excited at the prospect of such a highly touted young QB. But hope I haven't seen Manning under center for the last time as a Colt.
