Hopefully if enough people are aware of this they'll throw off their usual apathy of 'Can't make a difference' and actually vote for once to ensure it doesn't come about. Non-compulsory voting has a lot of sins to answer for, and things might change if people actually did it.

Well, this is the party's platform, not an actual bill they're trying to pass - but it's the summary of their goals and what they want people to know they'll support/push for in office. (Though let's be fair, compulsory voting would just mean that the majority of votes would be even less educated than they currently are.)

I'm currently hoping it was "just" a poorly worded way of saying "we oppose allowing homosexuals to adopt other people's children." Because "we oppose homosexuals having custody of any children" is just... insane beyond even what I normally associate with Texas wingnuts. x-D

Even beyond that, the summary has... Ugh. My general approach of voting against the Republicans in Texas just got a nicely solid "hell, yeah."
