I find I put much more of myself into my artwork than my posts - people just need to make a little effort to 'read' what I'm saying ;) Actually, I probably put much more in my art sometimes than I would ever type out consciously!
I think a little privacy with posts is often essential, and I find it a bit strange that sometimes people seem to almost expect intimate details in posts. Of course if you are feeling a need for some support, sometimes an LJ post can be a good way of getting it (at least verbally), or if the whole point of a journal is to be like an open diary for people to read, then it makes sense.
I love the tentacle head btw... very imaginative (I especially like the castle).
Yes. I would rather people know me through my art than anything I might say in an open journal. But I do like to talk and sometimes I like feeling like I've been heard and that someone relates to me. But I still like to think I can be wordy and still maintain some privacy. Or at least I don't want a person to think they actually know me because of a live journal. I could have made that so much shorter of a reply if I said "yes, what you said!" ;)
