You're right, that is funny. I'm sure EMPs have been utilized in more than one action film, so you'd think that the average member of the tv watching public would know about them by now.

You both make excellent points. My pre-nuclear holocaust plans shall now include finding out about any old-style radio dramas on the AM/FM bands. Heaven help I have no entertainment down in the bunker. Something to take my mind of the fact that I have no way of effectively emptying the slops bucket for one thing... *shudder*
