My article 'Hijacking of a nation: Democracy and self determination are a farce in occupied Iraq' is now available on the web. Comments very welcome.

It has been published in a NZ leftie magazine called Foreign Control Watchdog - it normally prints about 500 copies, most going to members of CAFCA. It has been a custom in Foreign Control Watchdog ( Read more... )

I'll read the article when I have a chance (I'm busy allegedly working at home today), and comment further when I can. But for now - I'm always happy to meet another lefty.

One cheeky and barbed question though - does your opposition to foreign investment in New Zealand extend to the wicked Americans from New Line Cinema? He he he.

But seriously, I'm with you in most regards. Although I'd probably tend to go the other way: Being and old Wells fan, I believe that a global economy is both (potentially) beneficial and irreversible, and that it can only be made fair by establishing a global political body.

Kia kaha, bro!

First off, I was only teasing about LOTR, so don't get too upset ;) I think you'll find me agreeing with you about most things.

I think LOTR was a pretty good example of how global capital should work, and I applaud Peter Jackson for his tenacious championship of NZ (as well as for being an all-round fucking genius. Long live Meet the Feebles! Sure, a lot of the jobs were temporary - although only in the sense that, once that project is completed, they move on - but the build-up to WETA as an industry, etc., as well as the other flow-on benefits, will keep the money rolling into NZ for quite a while ( ... )

Interesting article. It does all sound incredibly dodgy.

Looks like Bush will get voted out himself before the Iraqis get to vote...

thanks :) Naomi Klein is in Iraq writing about this stuff - her articles usually appear in the Guardian.

Just read the obituary. Good work.

Interestingly, my Dad's name is also Des, and we're also a strong Labor family (I think something like 4 generations have been members at some time or other).

Dad was a Fitter by trade, rather than a Train Driver, but he also loves his paper, and a book is always a good fallback gift option. Especially books about history, or prize of prizes, a book I once found that was a history of the Swans.

cool. thats quite interesting to hear about your family. My uncle once told me that Dad's father, my grandfather was 'about as left as you can get without being a communist' Even though he died before I was born I still find I can identify with him :)

what do you think of Mark Latham? Do you think Labor will get in next time?
