I am amazed sometimes as to how things that seem innocuous affect us in strange ways. This is mostly for vathan who I hope will share his own feelings on the whole thing, but all I can do is comment for myself ( Read more... )

I don't usually watch house, but enjoy it when i do.

i tuned in to the last 15 minutes of the show before 24 and was like WTF? who died? Kal Penn was one of hte main reasons i did watch the show when i did.

I liked his character alot. Unfortunately it has left me with more annoying characters than not. I like Formon, I liked Cutner, but 13 and Taub are annoying. Well done, but annoying.

Everytime I look at 13 I am reminded of a Family Guy joke. When Peter was Uma Thurman's eye wrangler. Lol. 13 needs an eye wrangler...

I had stopped watching House years ago, but I would have liked to have seen the episode - sounds intense. As for the actor, Cal Penn, I hear he has a job with the White House now.. Leaving acting for politics.

Interesting. I figured it had to be something like that. It was pretty abrupt for them to be planning this the whole time. I think that's part of what made it shocking. There was no foreshadowing.

It was an excellent episode. Even if it did hit a little close to home.

See, I hated the episode. I thought it seemed unrealistic. I have gone through dealing with far too many friends suicides. This episode seemed far too dainty and perfect. I didn't see any raw emotion or devastation. It really, really irritated me.

But I give a thumbs up for shock value, I never saw his death coming. Wow...

Huh, yeah I saw the raw emotion. Devastation, maybe not. I mean he was a co-worker. I wouldn't exactly be suicidally devastated if any of my co-workers killed themselves. 13 was pretty devastated (but then again, she gets a hangnail and has to have some kind of drama over it) Taub broke down at the end and cried. Even House was uncharacteristically concerned. It's interesting, because I thought it was incredibly realistic. Well, that's part of the greatness of art! Each viewer having their own take on the same piece ( ... )

I love the show... I've watched it for years. :)

But yeah, it's art and it's subjective to the viewer. Everyone reacts differently to suicide. Both Spencer and I didn't identify with any of the ways the characters dealt with it on the show... I didn't feel 13 was sincere, but then again she's a terrible actress so that could be it since she's our least favorite character.

I have lost a coworked to suicide... it really hurt. I wasn't their best friend, but I still spent more time with my coworkers than anyone else so you get close to them even if you don't want to. More so in the House character's cases. They are at the hospital unnaturally long hours... so their life is their coworkers which is why they're even dating them. Their friends/lovers/family all tend to be coworkers since they're with them constantly. So I think losing Kutner would have been far more traumatic than they made it seem.

Seems like Kal Penn left for public service in the Obama administration
