Gigs, trapnets in Lake Erie, and international travel rants

Kim Goodman and I play a wedding at the Graystone Wine Cellar on Saturday. I'm not such a fan of wedding gigs, but I've never been to Graystone and am keen to see it.

On Sunday, I'll be playing solo (rather casually) at The Santa Maria's Navigation Day festival. I'll be there 1-5 pm and don't yet know if anybody will help me in this effort, so I ( Read more... )

many of Ohio's commercial fishermen were indicted (with many convicted and a few more hearings pending) of harvesting yellow perch over their quotas and racketeering to process the illegal catches.

Wow - it never ceases to amaze me how high the stakes get in fisheries. I think hiring a bodygaurd sounds like a wise idea.

The story is more profoundly ugly than this simple quip implies. If we ever meet for a cordial pint of stout or cup of green tea, I'll fill you in on the ugly details.

Where in Ontario?

Are you sure you need the birth certificate, I have never carried one. A valid drivers lisence always was OK.

Mind you, things have tightened up in the last few years, and I just show my passport now - it's easier.

There is a lot of discussion amongst the various levels of government about the passport requirement, I suspect it may never happen.

Manitoulin Island. I've been going there off and on (more on than off) for the last 35 years. It's my home away from home. Feel free to swing by Lake Kagawong if you can spare the drive up sometime 12-19 August.

Technically, yes. Historically, they tended to be pretty lenient at the border (always worse coming back to the US than heading into Canada), but were a bit fussier if you had children in the car. After terrorism came to the US, they got pretty fussy about everybody.

I hope so. Frankly, I think this has more potential to wreck international travel and damage the economy of border cities than it does to enhance safety and security.

Manatoulin is a bit far from me. How are you getting there, driving? If so, you are probably going right past my house.

Make the above read "33 years" or "almost 35 years." I did e-mail before our trip, but don't know if you got it. We'll meet up one year, Brian...
