Eugene V (for those not keeping count, I am IV) graduated from high school this month. We weren't certain he would because severe senioritis put him in a bit of jeopardy. We were waiting for word on completion of final projects in a few classes (that eventually were completed...and just in time). We didn't receive final word until the Friday ( Read more... )

Wow - congrats on raising that one all the way up. Is he college-bound?

Thanks. Yes, he's eventually college-bound. He tests well but his grades are not competitive. He'd like to launch right into the local community college with the intent improve his grades and move on to OSU (where my dependents get a nice discount). However, I'm not so certain he's ready to do the work; he hasn't really demonstrated a willngness yet. I don't see the point to enrolling in any college program until you're prepared to do the work. Else is wasting money and time.

Again, I'm very proud of my children, but it's hard for me to come to grips with a lack of academic commitment/performance. I didn't have to develop tools to cope with these issues as a student myself; I don't know how to offer advice.

I know what you mean. My kid is very different from me in personality and learning style and I often don't know how to help get her on the right track (evidenced by my recent post on her social skills - so different from me at that age.)
