For a long time I was reading DK as Denmark and wondering if I'd missed a really big important part of the story.

I don't know the full details but a high quality US source supplied a story to a reputable Egyptian newspaper which then ran with the Israeli connection. It was something along the lines of Jews w*rking in WTC were warned not to show up for w*rk that day. The US authorities didn't counter it at all for a long time which caused many in the area to accept it at face value. Afaik the story has never been properly refuted and so many well-informed people in the Middle East believe the Americans and Israelis did 9/11 to justify their subsequent actions.
