regarding living in LA, I know how you feel. I've lived here for 3 years so far. I'm going to stick it out for at least 2 more. Give it a chance... but not too much of one. On the upside, growing inured to life here does grow hair on your balls.
On the other hand, Portland is great.

I'm planning a Portland trip soon. I have never spent longer than 1 hour in Portland, and even then, it was a potty break on a longer road trip to Eureka, CA.
