These days, in my family, birthdays are one of the few days of the year we really make any sort of big deal about. (Thanksgiving being one of the others.) Days like Memorial Day or 4th of July just never merited much attention. Halloween has pretty much become a sometime affair. (I didn't celebrate it at all this year.) I fit in the catagory of "It's another day, but I still like receiving a birthday greeting if one remembers." As far as my immediate family goes, we try to make a little special something of each of our birthdays, even try to gather or just phone a greeting. It's the thought that counts...

I like to think that birthdays are just a little bit more special than regular days. I just got used to having school on my birthday when I was little that I didn't get to do something extravagant to bring all the attention to myself.

Nothing wrong with being a sentimental, old bastard. It just happened to be something you needed at the time.

okay. maybe the reason some people don't wish you a happy birthday is that they DON'T KNOW it's your birthday.
