I've long thought that eating nutritiously/ sustainably was important, and best done by eating locally and/or organically and by supporting small farmers and urban agriculture, but this growing season seems to be the best that I've ever managed to follow through on those intentions.

amazing! I find it to be so satisfying as well. tho i get cranky about all my nights in august being spent sweating over a canner. ITS SO SATISFYING

I also liked the image of the man with the blue tooth picking a lock with a wire hanger. that is a man who should be on a stamp.

my constitutional aversion to letting any food go to waste mean that i was effectively forced to learn how to cook this summer. that was a hugely unexpected outcome, but a satisfying one, (i could do without another summer where 15 hours a week is spent in the kitchen, mind you).

Oh hi lj friends! I found this draft from the end of summer and decided to post it.

I also learned how to cook a bunch of new foods, in any case, I feel like I have "convenience" veggies, which aren't usually what I feel are my better consumer choices, and zucchini (there is a bagful thawing on my counter right now in fact) for baking (I love banana zucchini muffins)

Next year I hope to freeze tons of rhubarb and strawberries too, having a baby in late May does not always get the garden off to an awesome start.

working in fabric stores, I met lots of Hutterites. I find it interesting which modern technology they accept or reject.

Vanessa, I would like to try to go to Edmonton before the end of my mat leave! Don't you think that is a good idea??? Also, I agree, you should move in with me! Jean-Luc doesn't appreciate my rhubarb cosmopolitans like you would!!!
