On Tuesday in tuba choir someone brought to our attention that a 20-year-old woman just won the tuba chair in the Philadelphia Orchestra. Which is totally cool, yay tuba girls, but I am shocked by the AP story about it ( Read more... )

That quote made me internally swear a lot. What kind of teacher would say that about their own student? A miracle? Clearly it wasn't due in any way to YOU then, was it, jerk. Obviously it is awesome that she is so young and so accomplished, but if you've been teaching her and listening to her and mentoring her, it shouldn't be a MIRACLE, you should just express your pride. Bastard. Un-womanlike instrument my ass.

I played upright bass for 6 years and I understand that kind of discrimination. It's not a "feminine" instrument or something like that. *eyeroll* Whatever! One of my former roommates' siter was a tuba girl. Just rock on with your bad self and screw everyone else who has any crap to say about it! :D
