I am fully aware that it's not only locals who use the gyms I go to. I've used this chain of gyms in the UK as well. However, it's only in Singapore that you are 20% likely to find a used sanitary towel or tampon or panty liner in the shower cubicle. Not in my hot yoga studio, nope, yogis seem to have a little more class than that. But. I just don't get it. I can just about understand the neurosis that leads women here to take literally 7 minutes in a toilet cubicle because they are performing a deep clean, using some kind of scented "we hate women" cleansing product. I think it's dumb as hell, but I can almost understand it. I can understand the regular discovery that the woman before me has apparently had a shower in the cubicle, given that toilet paper is not widely used throughout SE Asia, as a bucket of water and scoop are considered more hygienic. But can't we at least all get together and understand that leaving a used tampon, even one wrapped in the large plastic bags given for used workout gear, wedged between the soap and shampoo dispenser, is just gross? And unnecessary too - there are 4 toilet cubicles in the branch I was in last night, and each one has a bin in it for precisely that item. And of course, as this is a persistent problem, there are little signs about changing room etiquette all over the place, but yet...
