the drumming! in my head! argh!
Actually, it's more like 'rar!', as it is all an echo of the fantastic gig I went to last night, with young monkey from work. Never heard of a band called The Boredoms before, but basically they were three drummers and a dude with a tapeplayer, decks, synthesisers and weird glowy-hand things. Three Japanese drummers, massively attacking their drumkits in amazing syncronicity, hypnotic, rhythmic/arrhythmic, chaotic and fragile and emormous and wow, basically. Because I'm frankly short it took a while to work out that I could see if I stood at the back by the bar, so was trodden on for most of the evening, but still, wow. And a chap called Alexander Tucker on first; very much the kind of music you don't want to be listening to in a darkened room when you only had about 3 hours sleep the night before.
For it was to be a weekend of music! Having evaded the clutches of Finnish Satanists in '70s suits in the Dublin Castle, myself and chums found ourselves in Green Note, a small blues cafe/bar on Parkway. Cheap entry, good cheap wine (not the oxymoron it might be in most other places) and fabulous americana blues/folk. Very impressed. Soft and mellow and wise and caustic and occasionally stompy- really good. And as soon as I can remember the dude's name, I'll let you know. He's gone back to Tennessee for now though. But, a great place to go out on a Sunday evening, have a little food, listen to some great music... all thoroughly civilised. Of course we all went back to mine to hang out of my little skylight to smoke and get pissed, but hey.
And, another success of the weekend! I've got a huge, big, white floppy hat for Singapore! It's very silly. I'm very taken with it, in a Jackie O kind of way. Thinking wide legged black linen trousers, plain white slit-neck t-shirt, wide wooden bangle, black sequin flip-flops and enormous sungalsses. Basically, life is an endless opportunity for another go at the dressing-up box, and I'm really rather enjoying it.
And Singapore! On Thursday! Hurrah!
