Virus Protection in Modern Day Operating Systems?

I've always been a Mac user and have never ran anti-virus software nor have I ever received a virus.

I've got anti-virus software on my work laptop (a macbook pro.) It hasn't gotten in my face in the last 5 months.

Windows is still going to be the easiest target for a long time; virus writers want to set up botnets to send spam with, and market penetration thus matters to them. I'm sure there are OS X exploits out there, and hell, they're probably getting exploited -- but by governments and corporate-espionage types, who tend to cover their tracks better.

Okay, time to go patch my tinfoil hat.

i didn't run it as frequently as i should on windows and lost 10 years worth of pictures. but once i started using a mac i never installed one. and even tho it would probably be a good idea i doubt i will
