Gave blood. Stings the whole time. What's the deal?

Going to Wisconsin next weekend. If you live in or near Green Bay, and want free food and all the Paul you can take, I'd love to see you. Help me move. Seriously, it'll be easy. I'm renting my garage for a couple months still - all I need to do is take everything in my apartment and move it ( Read more... )

Oh, we did. :)

I go every two weeks, however! Feel free to come along any time. Prior notice is encouraged. ;) Thursday/Friday nights are usually good too, when I'm in town.

glad you've got a moving plan! as to donating blood "stinging the whole time," did you let them know? often it's just a matter of slightly adjusting the position of the needle. Anyway, glad you gave again; thanks for saving a life, yet again!

It stings all the way down my arm and into my thumb and the blade of my palm. Adjusting the needle just causes the pain to intensify until they stop moving it. It's not a normal "Hey, there's an IV in me!" pain - had those, this isn't it. Seems like there might be a grumpy nerve? Maybe if they just used a different vein? Dunno. Still, it's a small discomfort compared to what the recipient is likely suffering. No big deal.

Maybe I should try my right arm.

agreed--sounds like you've got a sensitive nerve-dense spot next to that particular vein. Definitely would switch, either to a different vein in the left, or to the right arm. Most of the time blood donors find that it's basically painless, once the needle is into the vein (no nerve receptors inside veins!). Let me know how it goes next time.

augh, I screwed up this weekend and realized Sunday afternoon that I hadn't gotten in touch with you.

I'd help you move if I was in WI! I'll be moving myself in a few weeks. good times, good times.

When I gave blood it didn't hurt a bit, just got pretty lightheaded and it felt a little wierd but no pain. Have you had many IVs?

No problem. Any other time you want to show up, feel free! Would love to have you guys there.

Consensus on the site pain is that it's just weird. So it goes. I've had a few IVs, yeah.

I'd like to help but the insta transporter is not on-line.
*hugs* My thoughts are with you!

You need to get that thing fixed. Then you could use it to transport itself to where I am, and then *I* could use it to move.

If it's working within a week I'll rent it from you. $2,400 for the weekend.

I renew my offer to help you move, providing my transportation caust is covered. Actually I have just never spent any real time in the midwest, and it sounds like fun. *sigh* Perhaps another time somewhere this side of probably not going to happen.

Or my transportation (costs) could be covered, whichever you prefer.

I really appreciate that, John. :)

I'm just moving things from the house to the garage. We might need help packing and arranging boxes for the moving company; I'll run it by Kirsten and see what she says. You'd probably have a better time visiting Chicago, though. I could probably hook you up with a place to stay and a tour guide, as well.

The problem right now is that air fare to Green Bay is the highest it's been since I started this; nearly 1.5x what I have set aside in my budget for each trip, at this point in time. :/
