Hee, well, I would not say that Japan is two decades behind the times, when modern radio is full of bands and singers that sound like our eighties faves, you can name Foo Fighters, The Killers, Maroon Five, Franz Ferdinand, even Marylin Manson's excellent cover of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. The Jrockers grew up on 80's pop, and it's finding it's way out. You and I are getting old enough where we are experiencing the 20 year turn-around.

I would rather call Gackt the Bowie of Japan, in terms of pushing the androgeny envelope - in this case even better - shhhhhh - but he also writes and composes his own music, has written a novel, an autobiography, and a film, and like Bowie, puts forth some interesting notes into his own history (like he's a 467 year old Norwegian vampire)

We all know the Madonna of Japan is MatsuJun of Arashi! ;D

Oh, I'm all over Manson. Been so for years. Recently I've been listening to The Bravery as well. They get a lot of radio play and I could have sworn the Cure had a new album out there for a sec...but currently, it's all about the Gackt. I only have two albums left to download. I've packed my Nano to the hilt with all the rest. Still watchin' Furin Kazan, slowly. I found a streaming source I think I told you at crunchyroll.com. But I've been mixing that up with some yaoi--which has been hit or miss. Some of it is just...huh? Or yikes! Or, excuse me but isn't there supposed to be some yaoi in my yaoi film?? My usband brought home the complete Cowboy Beebop sessions, too so I've been rewatching all of that, too.

I thought of Bowie as well, but the Oasis video screams Madonna to me. With all the look changes per album, but then Bowie did that, too.

hes only played the US once, as part of the supergroup S.K.I.N. which included Yoshiki of XJapan, Sugizo of Luna Sea, Miyavi and Ju-Ken of GacktJOB (Gackt's band) they were at Anime Expo last year!

You have to see the film Moon Child, with Gackt, Wang Lee Hom and HYDE, and if you want some chuckles, go to YouTube and put in Gackt comedy, or Gackt funny, to see clips of him on Japanese television shows, namely where he complains about being molested on trains, is assaulted by ShingoMama, and explains how he showers and cooks food, it's hilarious.

Oh, and you'll know what Magnum refers to. ;D
