clarification

Hi,
I'm from the US and I'm looking into graduate programs in the UK and I'm a bit confused on the terminology. What is the difference between a Research Degrees and a Taught Programme? Both during the course of the program and at the end with what degree you get. Any clarification would be fantastic. Thank you.

pretty much, what it says on the tin.

on a taught programme, you get lectures etc, and will (probably) have to do a thesis.

on a research programme, you don't tend to get taught, and spend a year or so doing research for your thesis.

It's more indepth than that, but depends on where you go/what you do..
