Addio a Giappone e il Ritorno di Nate

After six years, I have returned to Italy.

It was rather bittersweet. Doubtless, years of fond memories have given me a rose-tinted view of everything. Arrival at the airport and transporting four heavy bags between destinations was no walk in the park, that's for sure.

At the very least, I had a soft bed waiting for me when I finally arrived in Perugia

Here's my street. As you can see, it slopes up, as does most of Peugia. Most of these old cities were built on hills. So it's a workout pretty much anywhere I go. Well, a workout for me because I'm so out of shape. Probably for the best that I need to bust my hump just to get home.

Perugia is a pretty typical Italian city. Piazzas everywhere, pizzareias on every street, and red-roofed buildings that stretch into the distance.

Though the colors are rather bland at the moment, the region of Umbria is called "Il Cuore Verde", the 'green heart' of Italy. It is covered in forests and is famous for it's richness in nature. Although if hikes and picnics aren't your thing, Rome and Florence are a short train ride away.

This the main piazza of the city. It's empty now, but on the weekends (and during the summer) it will be filled with students in search of a way to unwind. There are a few colleges here, including my own, so there is no shortage of places to check out and duck into.

The reddish building on the right is my school.

And this is the main street of the old city, lined with high-priced clothing outlets and other expensive niceties.

Anyway, just a taste of things to come. Good to be back! Stay tuned!
