Last night we noticed that Genubi has a tennis ball sized mass on his left side, just behind his foreleg! We were sorta freaked out that it might be cancer, so we took him to the vet today. The vet took some small samples with a needle, and fortunately she doesn't think it looks like cancer. She does think it should be removed though, so Genubi ( Read more... )

We are driving through Canada today on our way home from the American Physical Society (Northwest) meeting in Vancouver. It's totally beautiful out here -- huge mountains and lots of trees. Looks like Amazon is putting out another new Kindle -- the Kindle DX. This Kindle has a significant advantage for us scientists. It reads PDFs natively -- meaning you can actually read scientific articles on it! Also, the large screen means the font will/might be large enough to read. What I mean is that my Sony Reader reads pdfs natively also ( Read more... )

CNN has this fascinating article today about the Greek island Ikaria. Apparently people there regularly live significantly longer than elsewhere in the world, and scientists are working to figure out why that is true. Absolutely fascinating article; take a look:

Last evening I spent about an hour in our comfy chair upstairs playing Assassin's Creed (an excellent video game). Ever since, the back of my neck, down to about my shoulder blades, is in pain. I used my old biscuit recipe but put them together using Alton Brown's method, and they turned out amazing. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture before we ate them all! Still, I want to try Alton Brown's recipe next. It needs full-fat-plain-yogurt and full-fat buttermilk, neither of which I keep on hand!
