I want to spend one weekend in Paris, one in London, one in Dublin and Cardiff, and one somewhere in Scotland. I'll probably be doing most of these trips by myself. Unfortunately my hostel experience in Paris was rubbish so i have nowhere to recommend, however, Edinburgh is wonderful! If you book ahead you should be able to get a cheap train ticket (I got one for about 20 pounds from London to Edinburgh)

I used hostelworld.com, hostelbookers.com and tripadvisor.com for both reviews and bookings.

It may actually be cheaper for you to stay in a hostel in London than travelling in/out every day, just look at all your options/prices and figure that out.

I can help with the hostel for Cardiff: Riverhouse Backpackers. Granted I stayed there a couple of years ago now but it doesn't seem like the standards have dropped going by the reviews. Best hostel I have ever stayed in.

Don't forget that if you're going to Edinburgh you want to avoid the Festival season, when prices skyrocket and availability plummets ( ... )

Thanks so much for the advice! I didn't know about the Festival season, so that helps a lot. Ack, I keep forgetting about the Olympics! Haha but that's a great point, I'll start booking everything now, thank you!

From old comments, I think Isaac's Hostel in Dublin is good. I've never been, but have heard good things. Relatively central, right near Bus Aras and Connolly station.
