Kitty update III

Just got back from the vet. We saw pretty pictures of Mr. Pibs' insides. Anyways, they think he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The walls of his intestines are more than twice as thick as they should be and this kind of thing is usually the result of inflammatory bowel. So the bleeding would be essentially hemeroids. He also has some enlarged lymph ( Read more... )

Well, hurrah for a healthier kitty. Or a healthier kitty to be, anyway.

So the mystery mass that shoved all of his organs to one side were just the swollen intestines? Weird.

No no, it was the intestines that were shoved to the side. the mystery mass looked like fat on the x-ray and was determined to in fact be fat on the ultrasound. Apparently kitties' intestines tend more to one side than the other, but he's got such a massive amount of fat in there that it's shoving them even further over. *sigh* I've had him on a diet since August and he's still super tubby. Maybe the new food will help with that.

Ah. Well, you and Mr Pibs have my sympathy. My cat has been putting on weight since about a year after she was separated from her housemate. I've put her on a restricted amount of diet food (they used to just feed from a giant bowl at will), but the extra weight is not coming off very fast. So, we're moving on to enforced exercise. I just wish she didn't completely ignore laser pointers - she's the first cat I've ever known who didn't love to chase those around.

One of my cats gets excited by laser pointers for about 2 minutes, and then she loses interst because she can't catch it (those 2 minutes can be fantastic to watch though, since she'll jump up walls). The other cat completely ignores it.

The moral of this story: your cat isn't alone in her disregard for laser pointers.

Mr. Pibs and I can start our own IBD support group! Though if his can be kept under control with hypoallergenic food. . . well. I'm highly jealous.

Poor little guy. That doesn't sound too bad though, so all will hopefully be well.
