unnervingly true

I dreamed last night that (in the middle of a complex sequence of events) someone, whose opinion matters to me very much, said: "It's no wonder that it takes three people to like you." I think I know what they meant, and I'm really sorry everyone!

I'm.. not sure I get it. Don't know if this is a good thing, or a bad thing..

I think it meant that I'm only a third likable, and therefore it takes three people to count as liking me. Or that people have to gang up and outnumber me to be strong enough to overpower the danger of not liking me. But maybe it was deeper than that ...

Huh. I interpreted it as you had so much likability that it took three people to cover all of it. :)

You sweetie! I like your version better (though sadly, I was privy to the person's expression and tone of voice, and it wasn't a positive comment ...)

How kind. I usually do have extraordinarily complex dreams, of which many elements are clearly recognisable as manifestations of anxiety. Much of this dream certainly was (being late for a massive staff meeting, turning up to school in the wrong clothes, losing my books, finding myself intruding in places where I wasn't supposed to be but being unable to find the exit), but I was nonetheless struck by the lapidary nature of this particular utterance. I am wondering whether to ask the person in question the next time I am feeling loose-tongued and see what they think. Probably won't, though, because it usually freaks people out if you tell them you dreamed about them, let alone all the other reasons why it would be inadvisable (because, actually, most people don't feel comfortable talking about dreams anyway).

I think it depends a lot on who they were and what you dreamed ...! I find that pupils are usually worried because they think it's a bit pervy, unless the dream had a really good story. Male colleagues inevitably jump to the wrong conclusions. Apart from once when I dreamed that a colleague in my department (who is a hockey player) was going to leave to be Quidditch teacher at a school up north, and when I got on my knees to beg him not to leave, he said, "But, Eurynome, it's flying hockey!" This was thought to be very funny by many, himself included. I did not pluck up the courage to tell this particular person today, when I could have done, so I probably never will.
