Raziel

I took Raziel to the vet today for a routine-type follow-up checkup. He's lost some weight, probably because we neglected to water him over the holidays, though we have been doing it again for the past few weeks. They took him to the back room instead of having me take him into an exam room, but that's happened before on occasion. Then the tech came back out and told me that *she* was due for the full Senior 2 blood work and urinalysis; I asked how much that would be, knowing that however much it was I would go ahead and charge it and pay whatever I had to pay to take care of him for however long I got to keep him, because he is an important cat.

A few more minutes passed and then the tech came back out and told me that they hadn't been able to get any urine from *her* and I could leave *her* there for a few hours or bring *her* back, and after about the sixth "her" I corrected her (the tech, not my kitty). It's true that he is neutered and de-penised but do you people ever look at charts? Is it my job to give you my cat's medical history every time I go in? Maybe it is. At the follow-up before last the tech operated under the assumption that I was there for a follow-up on R's eye infection that he had had once, and that had cleared up right away, rather than on his ongoing kidney condition. I didn't see a doctor at all, but there was really nothing for a doctor to discuss with me without the test results.

There are several doctors at this clinic and I see a different one every time. There's one male doctor who is an asshole (knows what he's doing, but has the stereotypical nonlistening arrogant doctor personality that one runs across occasionally), one guy who I think is fresh out of vet school, and, I don't know, two or three women. I ought to pick one (or maybe two) doctors but it's never been suggested to me that I do that. I don't even know any of their names except for the asshole's. Yeah, I need to be more proactive. I need to take better care of the little non-fucker too, and if I don't own up to my own shortcomings and take care of my own cat how can I complain about the clinic?

William thinks that at least some of R's weight loss is attributable to his sitting on top of the heating grate all winter and dehydrating himself. I mentioned that to Dr. Asshole and he scoffed. I haven't made up my mind. We did set up a little bed/house for him (like this only it looks like a goofy cottage, not like an exotic leopard palace) next to the heating grate, and he was into that for a while, but he was back on the heating grate just now.

(Added: The pillow in his house had a bunch of weird stuff on it - looked like dried-up plant matter that he might have brought in from his first outdoor excursion of the spring this afternoon - so I took it out and shook it out and put it back, and now he is in the house again and purring. Aww.)
