I took a group lesson today. The group was me and a sweet, opinionated twelve-year-old from Seattle named Madison (she didn't like people in one-piece suits, people who "matchy-match" [jacket and pants], snowboarders who come out of nowhere and whiz by you, or helmets). We were taught by a stagehand named Tim who worked at Sasquatch last year and has two stepdaughters. I learned that I need to keep my shoulders back and bend my knees, doing the work of turning with my ankles and hips and not with my upper body. I also learned to catch air and land properly (keeping one's board straight and level is the way to do it). I need to remember to hold my arms out over my board, not crunch them up. A lot to remember; that's why I'm writing it all down.
The snow was a bit crunchy in spots but overall not bad. It was warm out (well, for a snowy place) and sunny. We went down a super long blue run (Coffel's Run to Kruzer if you want to look at the
map) as a class, and then I did it again by myself and went a couple of times down Pucci. I have information to work with for a few more trips before I will need another lesson. Tim the instructor recommended multiple consecutive days as a good way to improve. I have enough work that I don't want to go again tomorrow, but I maybe might think about two days in a row with an overnight at the Reed ski cabin at some point when I have enough free time and feel deserving.
