sacha37 and I are starting to organise ourselves another cave party. Those of you who went last year (or other years) will know what I mean, for those that don't, read behind the cut!
Basically, we head out to the Forest of Dean, near Symonds Yat. We park up the cars and walk for about 15 minutes into the woods. We leave the path, head down a small (but quite steep) gulley/bank to a clearing with one HUGE cave and a number of smaller caves nearby. Set up a fire, set up the sleeping bags in the cave, then we drink, and eat, and generally have fun. Watch the sun come up over the trees having a great time with friends.
What you will need:
- 2 fully functional legs
- Warm clothes (a good idea to bring waterproofs as well, just incase)
- Decent shoes/boots (I do NOT recommend trainers of any kind, hiking/combat boots are best)
- All the food you want to eat
- All the drink you want to drink (cans are lighter than bottles btw...)
- Sleeping bag
- Bedroll or camp bed
- Torch and a fair few batteries
- Anything else you think might be useful for a weekend in the woods.
There is some space in the clearing for a few tents if you really want one, but for me it's not a proper cave party if you aren't sleeping in the cave! ;)
Let me know if you're interested, also if you have transport and could possibly give a space to someone who doesn't. The current plan is to do this on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of July, so that should be a decent bit of warning for you all! Last years had a good number of people and was SO MUCH fun, even despite a light rain (which never reached us under all the trees!).
So, who wants to join in with some real camping for a weekend? :) Future entries will probably be on a filter, so speak up if you want to be on it!
