yay! for Prague! Don't worry about the Czech unless you plan to go off the beaten track, everyone in the shops & bars speak English! ;)

Yeah, I know really, but I like to make the effort to at least be able to say "please, thank you, hello" and such things in their own language. I've always found that making that little extra effort makes people much more happy to accomodate, you know? :)

*nods*

I find having an idea of basic foods & drinks useful too, particularly as a vegetarian!

If in doubt Bohemian Bagel does a nice breakfast! Also several lovely looking places tucked out of the way down side alleys - I can't remember the nice places we ate but it's best to explore places before you get hungry so you have an idea what is where :)

Aye, an understanding of foods will be useful, we're staying in a self-catered apartment while we're there! (right in the middle of old-town) :D

As for places to eat and whatnot, I shall be following kissycat1000's lead, as this will be her third visit to the city, and she knows parts of it quite well now!

I have a Czech phrasebook somewhere which I can lend to Meltie at the weekend if I can find it if that would help? The staff in a bar called Alternatif helped teach us useful phrases such as 'same again please' too! :-)
