SPN 5.10

Well, I'm a little underwhelmed. I was expecting a bit more. It didn't strike a punch. It actually didn't give me anything whose resolution I would look forward to. I felt really horrible about Jo and Ellen, but when Booby set up the photo to be taken, I knew someone was going to die, either Jo/Ellen or Castiel. It's such a typical set-up.

And I was expecting Castiel to get killed. Lucifer had him trapped and yet didn't kill him. It felt a bit like like a cliche villain situation. The bad guy catches the good guy, gloats or reveals a vital piece of information and then leaves the good guy with an opportunity to escape. Dude, by all rights, Castiel should be dead.

And when I was watching Castiel walk among the reapers, I squirmed at the bad directing/editing/acting (I don't know which to blame). When Castiel walks among invisible reapers, he does so quite quickly. When reapers are visible, Castiel walks more slowly, taking his time to look around. Sloppy!

Another sloppy bit - when Dean is hitting on Jo. Come on, Ellen would have normally smacked Dean on the head and told him to get lost. Later, when Jo asks Ellen to be treated like an adult just this once, I'm wondering why she acted like an adult and didn't react to Dean and her girl almost kissing. It is as if no one else was in the room. Unless, Castiel has drunk Ellen under the table, which is a distinct possibility.

Yet another thing that leaves me wondering about 'why not?' is why Castiel didn't try to shoot Lucifer with the colt. Lucifer doesn't lie, so he told the truth about the colt, but what if the colt was held by another angel. Only an angel can kill another angel. Technically, both Castiel and Lucifer are angels, right? So maybe it was worth a try. And it could have left us with a nice cliffhanger. I'm really missing a cliffhanger in this episode.

Two things that I liked about the ep are:
(1) Crowley! Because, yes, Brits can carry off nonchalant badassery with panache.
(2) The drinking. I would love to see how it played out.
