Comfort foods:

My latest comfort food appears to be giant bowls of veggies with homemade miso dressing. This is awesome, since I've been eating to darn much meat lately.

What's your favorite comfort food? My others include miso noodle soup, daal, white bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and cheese covered popcorn.

I like carb laden comfort food too. Even the salad has pasta in it!

Carbs, especially white bread, rice, and potatos, have a tendancy to turn into pure sugar as soon as they hit the digestive track. Pretty good reason to me...sugar rush!

Plain salted popcorn, popped in oil (not air -- too much like cardboard that way).

Sure. But like most of my recipes it is a bit haphazard.

You need good miso paste, white vinegar, lemon or lime juice and peanut or sesame oil. If you want, rice vinegar and cayenne are nice in it too.

Scoop some miso paste into a bowl. Pour in some white vinegar and a splash of your chosen citrus juice and mash it all together using a fork until it is no longer lumpy it should be pourable or almost pourable at this point. Mix it together with enough oil to make it a goof consistancy (I use alot less if I use peanut oil) and dump it on what you want to eat.

If you want to add rice vinegar or cayenne, mix them in before the oil. You can also add a bit of garlic or ginger to play with the flavor a bit.

Can you use olive oil or does it need to be peanut/sesame?

Also, where do I get good miso paste? I am so mad ignorant about downtown that I am still shopping at the IGA.

The Japanese grocer on Denman is good. I recomend the organic red miso paste by Hikari.

Olive oil will make it not taste as japanese. It you are adverse to Sesame or Peanut oil, I'd use regular veggie oil, but the flavor of the oil is a big part of the dressing.
