An Asian American Woman's Survival Guide?

Making up Asian eyes correctly calls for a subtle blending of earth tones while avoiding bold strokes of blue or green, colors suggestive of caucasian eyes. Rightly or wrongly, the wrong eye makeup marks you as someone trying to distance herself from her racial identity.

It's the *gasp* Ideal Asian American Woman - who wears the right eyeshadow, visits a greasy Chinese takeout three times a month, and has a Quality Asian Boyfriend. :D

I would take the survival guide with a grain of salt. It was obviously written by someone who 1) has not returned to the home country in a v. v. v. v. long time, cos they break all of those rules (But of course diapsora-angst inspires people to do stupid shit) and 2) is not v. smart or thoughtful on issues of racial justice.

Anyways, perusal of the site shows a v. schizophrenic array of articles on being Asian American, so again, wouldn't take it seriously.

Haha, yeah, the site is rather freaky, isn't it? I feel strangely traitorous thinking that, since it screams ALL ASIAN ALL THE TIME.

Who are you, btw? :)

I found your lj through friendsfriends or I randomly read people's friends pages. I can't recall which to be exact. (Much more common when people were blogging, i.e. blogging proper before lj clients and the such got popular.) Based on your lj information, I think we hail from the same county, but I'm a bit older, so I doubt our paths have ever crossed. XD

The site is pretty stupid, but I think I'm offended for different reasons. I got over the Asian angst in high school. My parents and my cousins did a better job of fucking up my understanding of my identity as Asian diaspora than that site did. Twas clearly written by a poser activist and nothing riles me up more than wannabe Asian activists. XD (Actually, that's not true. white wannabe activists rile me up more, but that's another story for another day.)
