It sounds like a really interesting trip, laced with both the good (go you, Rummy Queen!) and the bad (it's a toss-up between the spitting pickpockets and "the cruds").
I've always wanted to see Macchu Pichu, I'm glad to hear it lives up to all of those stunning photographs people take. What was the weather like? And do you have pictures? :)
The thing that got me about Machu Picchu was that it looked *exactly the way it was supposed to* (I had similar reactions to the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa). You've seen so many pictures of a thing, absorbed and internalized so much of "this is what a cultural landmark looks like" that it's almost surreal when you're actually there, standing near this visual icon, like 'huh, that's the thing in all the pictures and here I am, standing next to it'. ...Or maybe I'm just weird. Regardless, it results in a situation where I, for one, CANNOT STOP TAKING PICTURES. So yes! to your picture question. Unfortunately, I kick it very old-school indeed, and don't even have a digital camera, making sharing harder. My mom, who does, is expected to mail me some soon
