The last line made me jolt. Oh my god XD DAKEN!!! You successfully make him a woobie without removing his assholish aspects. That was beautiful, and it hurt in so many good ways.

Very nice. I like the theme of isolation and Daken's fascination with the F4's perfect little family. He reminds me of the little girl with the matchsticks in this (with the subtle difference that Daken is more likely to use the matches to burn down the places he can't enter). This actually felt like a Christmas tale to me, without actually being one.

There are a couple of details here that I really enjoyed, like the use of the painting, the erosion of patience that happens in families, Daken taking on the role Romulus assigned to him, of remembering everything about the people he's killed. That's my favourite paragraph, actually, it's so full of information, raises so many questions. Well done! :)

Wow, thanks for the feedback! I'm glad the Romulus part connected up with the rest of the fic--I was sort of concerned about that. And the girl with the matchsticks ... heh, well, now I have another archetypal character to associate with Daken!
