Depending on my mood that day, I'd be tempted to cancel the appointment and go elsewhere. If they are so incompetent that they can't cope with details of who's attending the appointment, will they really be able to cope with trickier things like what colour you prefer your cabinets?

Yeah, I agree. Don't encourage stupidity. And write to the company and tell them exactly why you are taking your single homeowner business elsewhere.

Oh, man. As a fellow lady homeowner, that would COMPLETELY blow my stack. Like, seriously? I have been to floor stores and hardware stores, and in both cases they've had the good sense to just not ask. One, it's incredibly rude and two, if I want to go behind a husband/co-owner's back to install new flooring, that's an issue between me and the co-owner, not something the store needs to get involved in.

I'm really sorry you have to deal with that. Out here I think there are enough female homeowners that it's not as big a deal (yay low cost of living, boo high divorce rate), and although I do think some of the repair people I have out just assume I came out instead of my husband, they at least have sense enough to be diplomatic about it. Maybe the next time this happens, you should make up a huge diatribe about an asshole ex-husband you're glad to get rid of, just so that they think twice before insisting a woman must have one again.

I didn't think it was legal for women to own property. Wouldn't that be like a fish buying a bicycle?

Maybe they just wanted to talk to a man because men do business better than women.
