My thoughts on Katrina...

I woke up this morning to Critter literally yelling at the tv because he was so pissed off. They were interviewing the Director of FEMA and he was lying like a damned rug. It was disgusting. I think you're completely right about it being a class thing.

However most class things are also partially race things. I was poor in Orange County california. As such I found myself oftentimes grouped with the Mexicans there, in public transportation, work options, and so on, because the Mexicans are the lower class there. It's not a 1:1 thing, but there is definitely a correlation between race and class.

Maybe I'm being naive here, but I think it's a class thing rather than a race thing.

I agree to a point. To the government it is very much a class thing. Notice how quickly they acted once mainstream media - even their cheering section at Fox news - started acting outraged. Had the area been white, the same thing would have happened. However, I feel it is likely that the nation and the media would have reached that outraged breaking point just a bit sooner (although not much). But the total not doing anything until it would total political suicide, until even the most ardent of suporters are questioning - totally a class thing.

The fact that this country doesn't care about the poor and has been trying to kill them off. Hell - that can be seen in hundreds of ways. Just what happened in my beloved home town concentrated it and made it obvious to the world.
