I'm making this post public so please feel free to link to it in your journal or anywhere else. I'm assuming people commenting will converse as adults. Please don't prove me wrong. :P

I'd prefer people voted before reading ( my opinion )

Although I do agree with you about the definition of Prostitution, the legal implications are that these "private clubs" often charge cover for these events, or require a paid membership to enter a club in which sex acts are committed.

Its a grey interpretation that is at the core of this. Is paying admission/membership fees for a club in which sex acts happen the same as paying for sex?

I don't believe so. These club owners or event organizers have costs. You cover their costs. Its a party. Ever walk into a room at a party to find someone going at it? If you paid a cover for the party, would you have been participating in prostitution? No.

The part I liked best about what I read about the decision was this quote:
But in their ruling Wednesday, the Supreme Court judges said the test for indecency should not simply be whether an activity violates a "social consensus" of community standards, but the actual harm it causes.

I see no harm in consenting adults bumping uglies with as many other adults that consent to join and or watch said uglies bumping.

What consenting adults do is their own business.

I'm starting to wonder if Canada is a more politically favorable climate for the likes of me...

Oops.. forgot I was going to add to your comment...

What consenting adults do in private is their own business. The public should have some say in what they can do in public. :)

heh.. brings to mind if it would be counted as public if 40000 people rented a stadium for a group orgy and went at it.. ;)

I definitely agree. I'd extend that to group marriage and the like as well (again, only consenting adults).. likely won't happen though as long as you get those religious based groups (usually offshoots of mormonism, and an obvious example of the problems with organized religions) involving 12 year old girls..

Anyway, no shock that I'm very open-minded about things.. :)

your poll isn't working - I wanted to AGREE - and just to clarify (since I have actual experience here and I bet people arguing against swinging DON'T) almost all clubs ask for a DONATION, not a FEE. that gets completely around that sex for money thing.

Seems to have worked for everyone else, so far. Maybe LJ was having issues when you tried?
