I'm pretty sure I know why you saw people walking around in formal wear. EMU often rents the McKenny Union Ballroom and sometimes the Convocation Center to local high schools for their proms. It's early prom season right now, so that's probably what you witnessed.

it's so weird to be in italy right now. even though i don't know italian that well, i could tell how sad the priest was in church this morning. SO sad. our italian opera teacher says they love the pope here.
