Empathy

It's a concept bandied about all the time. It's a measure of the innate goodness, or lack of, in people. I've been told there's nothing more noble than a sincere effort to really exchange shoes with another, to imagine how you'd have fared under such dire circumstances; faced with pure tragedy, bound by cold, cruel chains... pick your poison, as it ( Read more... )

I find myself more sympathetic than empathetic with people. Too many times I don’t have any idea what a person is suffering because I’ve never done or experienced the thing that causes their suffering. (Now you know why I don’t write, no eloquence at all)

Just a personal note, I am many years older than you. One time a friend asked me if I could go back in time and be any age what would it be.

The answer was 35. You would think 19 or 20 but when I really thought about 35 was the magical year.

At 35 - your body still feels good when you wake up in the morning, your face doesn’t show age, but maybe wisdom, you’ve pretty much decided where your life is heading but still have the ability and desire to learn and change if you need to, you no longer let petty people affect the way you feel, and you know enough to keep yourself out of trouble. There’s a lot more but with my advanced age I can’t remember at this time.

Enjoy you Birthday and this time in your life, it is the best.

Hey there!

For someone who claims to be lacking eloquence, I thought this was absolutely true and moving: 'At 35 - your body still feels good when you wake up in the morning, your face doesn’t show age, but maybe wisdom, you’ve pretty much decided where your life is heading but still have the ability and desire to learn and change if you need to, you no longer let petty people affect the way you feel, and you know enough to keep yourself out of trouble.'

This is just so spot on, because I couldn't agree more. I have been feeling calmer and more at peace, and more sensible.

You're a wonderful friend. Thank you for that bit of advice.

On a lighter note, I'm nearly done with a new chapter :)

Take care,
Sara
