I started Stephen King's Cell last night and read through the morning. I finally had to stop so I could take a shower and start getting kidlet ready for school, followed by errands and more phone calls. I had only 20 pages left by the time I clocked in at noon, and I finally finished between patrons about 30 minutes ago. Yay for me! The first book ( Read more... )

It was faboo! And I used my cell the next day (with no small amount of trepidation), so I made it through okay.

I stopped reading King years ago because he just scares me so much, but now I'm thinking about reading Misery. Have you read any of his other books? If so, what would you recommend?

I adore King... I know that sometimes he writes some weird shite but I will always have a special place in my heart for him.

Misery is great but for an intense and very cool scare try 'Gerald's Game'... really simple concept but one of his books that scared me the most. You have to read 'The Stand' ofcourse (it's my favourite King and I reread every now and again) Also 'Dragon's Eye' which he wrote for his daughter and isn't an out and out horror but a fantasy (with horror undertones).

'The Green Mile' is excellent (yes, I know, Tom Hanks movie bleah) and for novellas you should try and find both 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption' (the movie Shawshank Redemption which is my favourite all-time movie) and 'The Long Walk'.

:)

Oh, I love The Stand! Is Gerald's Game something about someone being tied to a bed? I think I heard about that one years ago. If that's the one, it DOES sound interesting. Hmmm...okay, I think I have to remember this is horror and not S/J, S/D, OT3 or OT4 fic. I'm sure being tied to a bed in a King novel is not nearly as pleasant as it is in one of those....

I'm going to try to get around to reading some of these you recced. Right now I have the 3rd Ya-Ya Sisterhood book sitting in front of me, but I haven't managed to begin it yet. *sigh*

I know what you mean. Sometimes it's so hard to get up! Wah! I've gotten used to my cell phone's alarm, though, and it's kind of pleasant (you can set the music/sound yourself), so getting up isn't as much of a chore anymore. Funny how such a little thing like the sound of your alarm can mean so much in the morning, huh?

I'm glad you stopped in to say hey, too. *smooch*

well i have you on my AIM-so looking for ya.

I've only chatted a few times in the past eight months. Nothing like the one-five times per week I used to. It's hard because I don't have internet at home and I work nights. I don't get home until 8:45pm, and then I play with kidlet until I put him to bed. Usually I wind up going to bed too. But hopefully I will see you soon on AIM....

Yes, I love the way he writes even if some of it does seem a little familiar (read: like his other books).
