I left Internet Security Systems about six months ago because I didn't have much to do and I saw folks getting laid off and it scared me. My products were all written and mature, and there just wasn't any new work coming for my team. And due to a hiring freeze I couldn't switch to another team. Wow!

I didn't know you left. I did hear from several friends (about the time you left) that there was a mass exodus, mostly due to them being purchased by IBM. It is so sad to hear about this. ISS was the most fun company I have ever worked.

I also heard that Kaneva (Chris K's other company) also recently had a massive lay-off...

When I left ISS there was a mass exodus ... and Kaneva was poaching a LOT of people, and was actively trying to get folks to leave ISS for Kaneva.

A few weeks ago they did a big layoff, just as you heard, and I know several folks who are now out of work. Somehow convincing someone to leave their job to come work for you just to lay them off six months later really seems bad.

Now ISS did layoffs later so maybe it would have fallen out the same way but still ... it just rubs me the wrong way. Klaus should have planned better.
