Eva, when someone of your caliber goes lonely for more than half of a year, then something is not right. Yuour listening and loyalty and intelligence (and beauty and class and wit and etc.) will not go unrecognized. College is and will be an experience foremost; it just takes some hard work and a little elbow grease.
My advice is clubs clubs clubs. Join college democrats or the simpsons club or try out for or stage manage a show. You know the type of people you like. Find them by common interest. Besides the dorm, that's the only way I've met friends.
Loneliness is for people I don't like. You, I like.
I agree with Dan's sage and eloquent advice. And for what it's worth, I strongly believe that you are out of the ordinary, and I don't find you to be boring, bumbling, fat or uninteresting.
