My mom told me that because of a no competition clause in Caribou's contract the coffee place by Video Update has to shut down. Despite the fact that the other coffee shop has been there for years, now that Caribou is in the area, it isn't able to renew its lease. A single woman has been able to keep a local business open in St. Anthony for what I' ( Read more... )

ahh i work at caribou--so i know how much it can actually screw ppl over--it really sucks that limu coffee is going out of business b/c of us and it makes me feel like the biggest ass for working there, its also weird b/c our boss told us that under no circumstances are we to mention this topic to anyone/media or risk being fired

Don't feel bad. I totally worked for the man all summer at Camp Snoopy. Hopefully, all of us good people will get great educations, make lots of money and save the world later in life when we can.

wow, that is crazy sophia. that they actually said dont talk about it or you could be fired. uh! corporate america!! that is one thing that i always use to be so proud of sta/north east minneapolis for, was the abundence of local restaraunts and shops, and now its truning into a little blaine, a stupid burb! uh, i know its not that bad but it just upsets me. i know that i dont do all that i can, and i know that my family doesnt either, but i really wish that i could. i think being a broke college student doesnt help either. The fact that even if i wanted to go to the co-op and buy my food there i wouldnt have anywhere near enough money to buy what i need. I understand where you are coming from eva and the fact that you are so strong in what you beleive makes me feel more confident in my opinions too, wow sounds real corney, but true... love ya!

St. Anthony is turning into a a real suburb. Nordeast is still spectacular and hopefully it will stay that way. And I'm not so strong because sometimes I just reeeeeally want a double cheeseburger. I just talk a lot.

small voice: There have been times where even I have had to go to Wal-Mart and render myself a complete hypocrite (but where ELSE was I gonna find an ethernet cable at 11:30 P.M.?). Yes, you can still support independent restaurants and stores, but you shouldn't feel that you can only have a clear conscience if you frequent them exclusively.

That said, if you'd like to come up with a protest or something during winter break, it would be ever so much fun (and I can avoid Caribou then because the Ho Ho Mocha promotion will be done).

we should live in the woods and grown our own food, i just did a speech on how your not informed in the media because corporations control almost all of our news sources, but hey they control everything in our life, what kind of music we like, where we live, what we watch, what we hear, what we buy, yet we live in free america, i dont really understand what it means to be free
