Shame on you all

Today, 33 people (including the assailant) were killed not 3 hours from where I live, at Virginia Tech. The tragedy has left many asking "why?" It's left me completely floored and at a loss for words, not only because of the horrendous event, which should be the ONLY thing I'm upset about in relation to this, but its not. I am sick and tired of how ( Read more... )

I agree. However, there is danger when they blame video games and music as well. They become scapegoats to the point where there is no resolution or root-cause interventions for curbing school violence and identifying people who have a problem. People are selfish if they are consumed by the notion of their sacred video games being taken away, yes, but there is a more profound issue at hand when they blame lack of censorship. It's dangerous.

What is worse is when kids think this kid was a martyr like Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold of Columbine (if this new shooter's motives were remotely the same). Those are the people we should be wary of.

I'm sorry your friend died. We had 3 deaths here recently and it's shaken up our little community. Death really does change your perspective.

Be well.

By "a more profound issue at hand", I take it you mean the individuals themselves and their motives, right?

I don't think we can make much of a judgement on this until we know anything about this individual.

Yeah meaning that they ignore root-causes for issues. And you're right, we don't know what the killer was like or why he did it yet. I'm just responding to how those people you are describing react. I've just been knee-deep in research of this nature lately.

My dad and I have discussed that since this tragedy has occured more people will have a negative opinion on the Korean community (correct me if I'm wrong I was told that the man was Korean) because most people become stereotypical against a certain race, religion etc. based on one person from that particular category...which isn't right at all.

like with the 9/11 tragedy you know what I mean.

Sure there will always be a scapegoat, Like Marylin Manson with the Columbine incident...just because you listen to something or play a game that has shooting involved doesn't mean you will turn out that way, its all based on the person and how they handle a situation...

Sorry I started to ramble, forgive me.
